Meet Joshua Powers – Turning a Life of Food Allergies Into a Mission for Change
I’m Joshua Powers, an entrepreneur, advocate, and founder of SafetyZone, we are a food allergy consulting business dedicated to making restaurants safer for people like me.
I was born with life-threatening food allergies, and they’ve shaped every part of my life. I’ve had multiple anaphylactic reactions, some so severe that I needed serious medical intervention. There was even one time when I truly didn’t know if I was going to make it. My sister has the same allergies as I do, so our family has always had to be extremely careful about food. But no matter how cautious we were, eating out always felt like a gamble.
That’s why my mom, Francine, and I created SafetyZone. Because no one should have to live in fear over something as simple as a meal. With her 25 years in the food industry and my lived experience navigating the daily reality of food allergies, we’re here to help restaurants build safer, more inclusive dining environments. Our goal is simple: education, action, and real change—so that people with food allergies can dine out with confidence.

Meet Francine Powers – A Passion for Food Safety and Change
With 25 years in the food industry, working at companies like Tops, US Foods and Meals on Wheels. I’ve seen the challenges firsthand that restaurants face when it comes to food safety. But I’ve also seen the gaps, especially when it comes to accommodating food allergies. As a mother of a son and daughter with life-threatening allergies, this issue isn’t just professional for me, it’s personal.
That’s why my son, Joshua, and I started SafetyZone, a food allergy consulting business dedicated to helping restaurants create safer, more inclusive dining experiences. With my industry expertise and his firsthand experience living with anaphylactic allergies, we’re working to bridge the gap between food service and food safety. Our goal is simple: real change, so no one has to risk their life just to enjoy a meal.
